Weighing scale

Sell rice, meat, vegetables and other goods by weight — type the weight, read it from a scale, or scan the barcode a label scale prints.

On this page

Some goods are sold by weight: rice, beans, meat, fish, vegetables, tea leaf. LiteShop keeps their price per kg (or per viss), their stock in kg with up to 3 decimals (12.345 kg), and charges each sale by its weight. Weighing scale items are on the Plus plan and up; items you already sell by weight keep selling on every plan.

#Sell an item by weight

  1. Open Items and the item (or Add item).
  2. In Sold by weight, switch it on and choose the unit in Sold per.
  3. Type the Price per kg and the Cost per kg in Pricing.
  4. If you use a label scale, type the item code it prints in Scale item code (PLU).
  5. Tap Save.

For an item that already has stock, LiteShop asks before it changes: 1 piece becomes 1 kg in every shop (12 pcs → 12.000 kg). Check the price after this — it is now per kg. Switching back to pieces needs whole kg in every shop.

#Units

UnitIs
kg (kilogram)1,000 g
g (gram)—
viss (ပိဿာ)1.632932 kg = 100 ticals
tical (ကျပ်သား)16.32932 g

Stock is counted in the item's unit with up to 3 decimals. Stock in, adjustments, counts, transfers, damage, purchases and purchase orders take decimals for weighed items (12.5 kg): see Buy stock by weight.

#Weigh at checkout

  1. In Checkout, tap the item. The weight keypad opens.
  2. Type the weight. Under it you see the price: 0.750 kg × 4,500 MMK = 3,375 MMK.
  3. For small amounts, switch to g (or tical for viss items) and type grams.
  4. If a scale is connected, tap Read weight.
  5. Tap Add.

Weighing the same item again adds the weight to its line (0.750 + 0.500 = 1.250 kg). Tap a weighed line to change its weight or remove it; owners and managers can also type a Price per kg there. Receipts show 0.750 kg x 4,500 MMK under the item.

Refunds can return part of the weight: in Transactions → Issue refund, type the weight to return (or All). The money comes back in proportion and the weight goes back to stock.

#Discounts on weighed items

Discounts work on a weighed line by its weight, so "2 kg or more" and "200 off per kg" mean what they say.

DiscountOn a weighed line (2.5 kg rice at 4,500 / kg = 11,250)
% off% of the line: 10% off = 1,125 off
Amount off each itemper kg: 200 off = 2.5 × 200 = 500 off
Fixed priceper kg: "4,000" = 2.5 × 4,000 = 10,000 to pay
Quantity tiersthe weight counts: "from 2 kg: 5% off" applies at 2.5 kg; an amount tier is per kg
Minimum quantitya weight: minimum 2 = 2 kg or more
Spend tiers, whole-sale discounts, free deliveryby money, as for any line
Buy X get Y, Bundlenot for weighed items: these deals count pieces

Pieces and kilos in one rule add up (1 bag + 0.5 kg = 1.5), so keep quantity rules for weighed items to weighed items.

The item discount on a weighed item (Items › Edit item › Item discount) works the same way:

  • Fixed amount is per kg (500 = 500 off per kg).
  • Min weight is a weight: 2 = from 2 kg.
  • Discount weight (remaining) is how many kg are still sold at the discount price, across all sales. Each sale uses the weight it sold (to the gram); a sale partly over the limit gets the discount on the part inside it. A void, or the refund that returns the whole sale, gives the weight back.

At checkout the reason under a discount says it in weight: "200 MMK off per kg · 2.5 kg Rice", "Add 0.5 kg more → 10% off".

#Buy stock by weight

Purchases, purchase orders and receiving take weights with up to 3 decimals for weighed items.

  1. Items › Record purchase: add the item. Quantity, Free qty, the batches and the low-stock level are in its unit (kg): type 2.5 for 2.5 kg.
  2. List cost is per kg. The landed cost (after discounts, freight and free goods) is per kg too: 2.5 kg at 4,000 + 0.5 kg free = 10,000 for 3 kg = 3,333.33 per kg.
  3. Inventory › Purchase orders: order 3.75 kg, then Receive 2.5 kg now and 1.25 kg when the rest comes. The order shows "2.5 kg of 3.75 kg received" and closes when everything is in.
  4. A scanned receipt keeps the weight it reads (4.899 kg), no rounding.

Free goods on an order line are shared by weight as you receive (0.375 kg free on 3.75 kg: 0.25 kg with the first 2.5 kg). Supplier price breaks work by weight ("from 10 kg: 3,800 per kg"). After receiving, Print labels offers one label per line received (a sack or a tray), never one per gram.

#Scale barcodes

Label scales (Rongta, Aclas, DIGI, CAS LP…) weigh the goods and print a sticker with a barcode. Scanning it at checkout adds the item with that weight — no keypad.

The barcode is an EAN-13 that starts with 2: two prefix digits, the item code (PLU), then the weight or the price, then a check digit.

FormatMeans
22 PPPPP WWWWW Cweight in grams: 2200123007506 = PLU 123, 0.750 kg
23 PPPPP $$$$$ Cprice: 2300123033755 = PLU 123, 3,375 MMK

These two are on from the start. Change them in Settings → Checkout → Weighing scale → Scale barcodes: the prefix (22 to 29), item code digits (4 to 6), weight or price, decimals, and the unit the scale weighs in. Type a barcode in Try a barcode to see what the register would add.

For price barcodes LiteShop works the weight out of the price (to the gram) for stock and charges the label's price.

#Connect a scale

A scale with an RS-232 or USB-serial cable can send its weight to the register:

  • Chrome or Edge on a computer — Settings → Checkout → Weighing scale → This register's scale → Chrome / Edge (USB scale), then Choose the scale's port and pick the scale.
  • Windows app — choose Windows app (COM port), tap Find COM ports and pick the port.

Then set the speed and format (most scales: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, parity None, 1 stop bit — "9600 8N1") and how the scale talks:

  • Sends all the time — the scale sends its weight continuously (most CAS and Chinese scales).
  • Answers a command — the register sends a command first (usually W, Toledo / CAS style).

Tap Read weight now to test. Each register keeps its own scale.

#Scales that work

Any scale that sends its weight as text works, for example:

  • ST,GS,+0001.250kg (CAS, many Chinese scales: ST = stable, US = still moving)
  • ST,NT,+ 1.250 kg
  • 1.250kg, W:001.250 (answers to W)
  • weights in g, kg or lb (lb is changed to kg)

LiteShop takes the newest stable weight. If the scale sends no unit, it uses Unit if not sent. Label scales that print EAN-13 barcodes with prefix, PLU and weight or price work with Scale barcodes.
